LaTeX is not really suited for newspaper typesetting. As the project
page says: LaTeX is a high-quality typesetting system, with features
designed for the production of technical and scientific documentation.

If the newspaper publishing industry is intended, then they could use
many tools, inlcuding photo-editing (Gimp), vector graphics (Inkscape),
typesetting (Scribus), email and so on. Journalists themselves would
need tools like wordprocessors, spreadsheets, email, contact management
and task scheduling (evolution, kontact), etc. Simple things like
stickynotes/knotes could be very useful as reminders. Of course, photo
journalists could use Gimp, and cartoonists may be able to use ktoon or
inkscape.
